Watersmeet Area
According to Carole's the area still has snow on the ground but not enough for the snowmobiles. The lakes are also in the in-between time but she says the area waterfalls are beautiful this time of year. Spend a weekend at the casino or driving along the back roads for a nice escape.

Gladstone Area
Naomi reports the ice is moving out of the bay pretty quick and this weekend warmer weather is predicted. The Harbor in Gladstone is open for boats. Anglers are reporting Steelhead in the river and the Northern Pike are also reported so Suckers should be running any day. She hopes we will also see some Smelt this year as well. I am hoping for a Smelt run as well.

Frankfort
Captain Kris reports in the Frankfort area things are not hot and heavy, however anglers are picking up Brown Trout in the shallows along the banks of the river, there running in the 12-14 inch range. River fishing is also producing a few suckers. He says it is still a little early for the Betsie River but at the Homestead Dam a few Brown Trout were being caught.

Oscoda
Rick reports the Steelhead fishing has been top notch, lots of limits and they are hitting on wigglers, wax worms and spawn. Jumbo Perch are coming out of Cook's Pond and Walleye are starting to show up at the mouth of the river. He adds there are seeing a ton of bait-fish in the harbor so the Salmon may end up being good this year.

Trenton
Frank tells me the cold spell remains and fishing continues to improve but it still is not where it should be. Anglers are getting a few more of bigger sizes from last week. He says there are lots of fish in the river but they aren't hitting as well as they should for this time of year. |
