Cadillac
During last weeks heat spell few spent much time fishing. Summer is back to normal again. Warm, not out rageously hot, with cool evenings. Keeper Bluegills and Sunfish are getting harder to find. Try the 9 to 15 foot depths outside the weed beds. The most successful are drifting. Once they get bites or mark a number of fish they'll anchor and still fish the area. Waxworms, Leafworms, pieces of crawlers or crickets have all been effective. The South Shore on Cadillac has been good. Also, in front of the library on the East Side of Cadillac. There's also a chance you'll catch good sized Rock Bass there too. On Lake Mitchell, try the South Side of Blind Island. The 9 to 12 foot holes have been good. Crappie, best fishing is at first light. They are normally suspending 3 to 5 feet down. Once the sun starts penetrating they're going deep. Small minnows, Beetle Spins, Road Runners or Pinkie Jigs are the favorites. The East side of Cadillac has been good from the Fire Station to the Condos. The mouth of the Small Cove on Mitchell is also good. Pike fishing is good for numbers of undersized fish. Fun to catch but not to keep. It's Mid August and this is normal. Most of the legal size, 24 inch and over have been caught on Spinner baits, especially white. Suckers under a bobber also work. Our lakes are two of the best in the State for Pike. The big ones will be back as it cools down. Large Mouth Bass, live bait anglers have been using crawlers or leeches. Artificials, it's all over the board, Senkos, tubes, spinner baits and surface lures. Early and the evenings, try along the docks and pontoons. Once the sun is up work the deeper flats or along the heavy weed cover. Lake Mitchell seems better for large mouths. For the bigger, feistier Small Mouths, Cadillac is best during the summer. Walleye, even in the heat, a few were reported from the West side of Mitchell. Few numbers, but as always they were big. The anglers who caught them wouldn't be more specific as to where or how.
