In the Southwestern end of the Upper Peninsula in Watersmeet Carole reports the national weather service is predicting 3-8 inches of new snow today but all the trails are groomed and are very good to excellent. However she is expecting a very busy weekend.

Ontonagon Area
According to Don the trails could use a little more snow and virtually every storm that has been predicted in the area has missed them. Trails are a little rough in town but outside of town are still in good shape. Fishing has slowed dramatically which he says is normal for this time of year. Anglers are getting a few panfish and perch, however the pike and walleye have tapered to virtually nothing.

Currently in the Alpena area is under a white out with lots more snow expected, some reports are predicting up to 28 inches of new snow. Snowmobilers are finding trails excellent. Fishing success has slowed a bit and Budd reports that is normal for this time of year. He adds that Long and Grand Lakes fishing success so far this year is the best it's been in 12 years. The lakes have 12-18 inches of ice. Anglers have been catching lots of Perch on Minnows and Wigglers, Walleye are here and there Pike have been reported decent. Budd suggests fishing in 16-18 foot of water with bait 1-3 feet off the bottom. |
