According to Carole even with the recent warm weather, the trails are still in good to very good shape with no bare spots. She suggests travel in the morning and late in the day to avoid some of the warm up. Colder temperatures are expected to return by the end of the weekend. Fishing reports last week for the Cisco lake chain were not good.

Anglers are still catching fish on Long and Grand Lakes and reported 8 plus inches of ice on Thursday. The area is predicted to see temperatures in the 50's for the next few days and things could deteriorate fast. Some anglers are going to try for Brown Trout this weekend on Lake Huron a quarter of a mile out where there is open water, Budd says they troll or use minnows. Snow is still on the trails but they are very wet and Budd thinks they will only hold up for a few more days.

The conditions were very foggy with a couple of hundred feet of visibility on Thursday. Anglers are still doing well on Walleye on the Bay; the ice is getting crappy but is still around 20 inches. Steelhead is reported good in the river. Cedar Lake has been producing Walleye and Perch, Van Etton is good for lots of small Perch but you will work for a limit. The lakes in Glennie are good for Bluegill and Perch especially around the lower landings. Snow remains in the lower lying areas.

42 degrees and foggy on Thursday afternoon has the snow disappearing fast but the ice is holding and was 10 plus inches before the warm up. However heavy rain is predicted and things could change fast. Your best bet is to call ahead for the latest conditions.

On Thursday, Debbie reported things pretty quiet and foggy. She says the area did not get the rain like areas further south saw, however the warm up still took its toll on the trails. Many bare spots and mud. Fishing has been good for Panfish and especially Crappie and of course Pike. She says plenty of Ice remains but it is sloppy and could be a challenge this weekend for quads and snowmobiles. In the river with the warm up steelhead is beginning.

Anglers are getting out on the boat launch at the river mouth and heading to the East side of Muskegon Lake where they are landing Walleye. Anglers are mostly catching and tossing but have reported some nice sizes. Most action is happening around 5:30 to 6:00 pm but some are staying until midnight. Preferred bait is the Husky-Jerk. Anglers are also reporting some success during the day on the river for Walleye and Steelhead trolling Husky-Jerks. Steelhead are also reported along the break walls using spawn. Ice fishing appears to be ending. |
