Upper Peninsula

Watersmeet Area

In the Watersmeet area Carole reports things are nearing an end for the snowmobile season. The groomers are still making it out but most heavily traveled trails and the trails in town are reported fair to poor. The less traveled areas and in the woods still are reported good but she states you need to be creative to get there. She suggests you call her directly and she can fill you in on the short cuts and secrets to get to the trails that are still ride-able. The area has received some new snow but temperatures are expected to be in the 30's and rain is in the forecast next week.

Ontonagon Area

In the Ontonagon area the area still has snow and trails are still ride-able. Kathy says some spots are getting rough but overall the trails are still fair. No report n Ice fishing success but the area has had cold temperatures and she thinks it is still safe.

Gladstone Area

Bob reports In the Gladstone area there is still about 18 inches of ice on the bay and anglers are reporting decent size Perch around the red buoy. Snow banks remain but not enough for the trails.

Raber Area

In the Raber area Bob reports they still have snow and snowmobiles are still running. About 18 inches of Ice remain on Raber Bay and anglers are reporting hit and miss success Perch fishing. When they have been biting anglers are seeing lots of Perch of good size. The geese have also returned and are looking for open water.

Drummond Island

On Drummond Island, the locals still have ride-able trails but the corners and heavily traveled areas are down to dirt. Rabbit hunters are taking advantage of the last weekend and with 15 or more inches of ice anglers are getting out but finding the Perch fishing success slow.

Lower Peninsula

Indian River

Ice remains on the Inland lakes however it is deteriorating fast. Anglers are still getting out and reported good messes of Perch on Mullet Lake . Another Angler reported several out of season Pike on Indian River . Snow is gone.

Boyne Falls Area

Snow is done and gone however; some cold nights have kept the ice on the lakes however, success has been reported sporadic. The area is looking forward to spring.

Frankfort

Boats are trolling the open water on the bay and anglers are getting out on the river but steelhead is slow on the betsie. Along the pier in Frankfort the steelhead are hitting decent on spawn.

Oscoda

Rick reports in Oscoda that the Steelhead are in the river ands anglers are limiting out left and right, Water has receded and is in good shape. Best success is on natural bait, wigglers, wax worms and spawn bags. Walleye are picking up along the pier heads in both Oscoda and Tawas and Brown Trout remain decent in Tawas.

Cadillac

On Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell Debbie reports several inches of Ice under 3 inches of white ice on top. Anglers are reporting catches of Crappie and Perch. Most anglers are heading to the river for Steelhead and it's a mixed report on who you talk to. She did hear of lots of hook-ups but landing has been tough. Higgins lake remains good for Smelt, however Green Lake is not recommended due to deteriorating ice.

Ludington

In the Ludington area anglers are reporting the Steelhead are coming into the piers he does not have any report from the rivers but he suggests they are probably there as well.

Muskegon Area

In Muskegon, Thursday morning it was dead calm and the steelhead surf fishing success was slow, as bill puts it they were missing the "S", in surf fishing, however a northwest wind was picking up and he expects things to pick up for the afternoon. Overall, the Steelhead has been decent and he reports that in the early morning and evening in the same areas anglers are picking up Steelhead the Brown Trout are showing up in shallower waters. In the Bear lake channel, anglers are reporting Perch, best baits are minnows and wigglers.

The weather has been changing and not many anglers have made it out. Anglers report things slow In the harbor. Open water everywhere and Brian anticipates this weekend many boat are going to make it out for early spring steelhead.

Chris tells me about 9 inches of Ice remains on Crooked Lake and fishing success has been fair. Partly due to a lack of participation from anglers. Snow is gone.
