The sun is shining today after many rainy days. The area is hosting the Lake Trout Classic this weekend. Anglers are catching fish but keeping quiet on what and where. On the river the Walleye has been slow due to murky water. With all the rain no Morel hunters have been reporting on success.

Raber Area

In the Raber Area fishing has been very slow on the Mainland but reports from Drummond Island and Browns Bay in Sault Ste Marie report excellent Perch with Walleye mixed in as well. Mushrooms have been spotty for Morels and the Beefsteaks are done.

Frankfort

In the Frankfort area Captain Kris tells me South of the Frankfort Harbor around Grace Road the Salmon are hitting in 150 foot of water fishing 90-110 feet down, green dolphin spoons have been very hot. Morels are still out and with some warmer weather could continue to be good pickings, In Betsie Bay Carp are spawning in close and are 20-25 pounds. No word on Perch or Lake Trout and word is a few Brown Trout are being landed.

Alpena

In the Alpena area Budd says it has rained for 2 weeks straight, better weather is predicted for the end of the weekend. Anglers going out on Long and Grand Lake are marking lots of fish on the graphs but not many bites. Anglers fishing the big lake in Alpena and Lakeport are doing very well on Lake Trout using Dodgers and Spin and Glows. Also Walleye are decent on Lake Huron , one angler is reporting 3-5 after 6 pm . F-18's and Rattling Roach's are working very well.

Oscoda

In the Oscoda area Rick reports Walleye success is good in the river by the mouth using Night crawlers during the day and Rapalas at night. Steelhead is reported decent on Lake Huron. Van Etton Lake by Don's Place is reported good for Perch, Walleye is also decent on both Van Etton and Cedar Lake . Cook Lake and Foot Pond is decent for Bluegill.

Houghton Lake Area

On Houghton Lake they are gearing up for Fishing Tournaments this weekend, Walleye has been picking up but Panfish has been slow, Pike is always good. On a side note a 45 pound carp was landed on 6 pound test line behind the dam.

Cadillac

As always on Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell Debbie reports the Pike fishing is very good, Crappie anglers are finding decent numbers mostly on Lake Cadillac, Bluegill are getting active along with a few Sunfish. No Walleye to report this week and Mushroom Hunters are getting bunches of White and Grey Morels.

Ludington

In the Ludington area lots of mushroom hunters have been hitting the woods, Bluegill are decent especially around Tamarak, Steelhead are reported on the Pere Marquette River and a few Walleye and Pike are on the inland lakes.

Muskegon Area

In the Muskegon area Tom tells me the Catch and Release Bass fishing has been hot on Muskegon Lake and they are also getting many pike in 10-15 feet of water using crank baits, Walleye has slowed as the alewives have moved in, Panfish are moving to shallower water and are decent on bobbers in 6-8 feet of water. On Lake Michigan from the pier heads to 100 foot of water Salmon and Lake Trout have been very good on spoons.

Lexington Area

In the Lexington Area Brian reports the fish are in close on Lake Huron, this week they have been landing in 17-80 feet of water, King Salmon 7-10 pounds, Coho 3-4 pounds, Pink Salmon and Lots of Lake Trout, Perch are moving north and are also in the harbor. This weekend the area holds its Blue Water Classic Tournament the biggest on of the year and with the North West wind 5-8 foot waves are predicted on Friday but Saturday and Sunday look better, last weekend they held the Second annual Lexington Fishing Tournament and weighed in 700 pounds of fish.
