2006 Michigan Deer & Turkey Spectacular and Shooting Sports Show Release: Immediately Date: Jan. 19 , 2006 Trophy Deer - Elk - Bear - Turkey Contest at Michigan Deer & Turkey Spectacular You're invited to enter your trophy Michigan whitetail buck, black bear, bull elk or turkey in the trophy contest at the upcoming Michigan Deer & Turkey Spectacular, Feb. 10-11-12, at the Lansing Center in downtown Lansing. There also is an out-of-state category for whitetail buck entries. Basic entry fee is $15; in return you get a three-day pass ($27 value). There is no advance entry; just bring your trophy to the show. Award presentation begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, and entries must be present to win. No trophies will be released between noon and 3 p.m. Sunday. More than 250 Michigan big game trophies are expected. All measuring and scoring is done by members of the Commemorative Bucks of Michigan (CBM). Contest rules: * Entries begin at noon Friday and close at 10 a.m. Sunday. * Entry fee is $15 (you also get a weekend pass - $27 value) for the first trophy you enter and all entries not already officially measured. The cost is $7.50 for additional entries, after the first entry, already officially measured and for which you can show proof of official measuring. If you cannot show proof, the fee is $15. Antlers do NOT need to be mounted but must be attached to the skull plate. * Michigan deer -- typical antler and non-typical antler classes in firearms, archery and black powder divisions; historical (2004 season and earlier) and current-year (2005 season) categories in firearms and archery divisions only. Black powder entries are much fewer, so they are grouped together in one category regardless of year taken. Eight-, nine-, 10-, 11-, 12- and 13+-point categories in typical-antler categories. * Out-of-State antler entries can be from any state (except Michigan ) or Canadian province or Mexico . * Black bear -- firearms and archery classes. Bear skulls must be clean. * Elk -- typical-antler and non-typical antler classes. * Turkey - longest beard, longest spur. Previous First Place Historical Category (deer) winners are not eligible for re-entry. First Place winners in Current Year Category (deer) at last year's show are eligible to be entered in the Historical Category this year. All previous first-place winners in other categories are not eligible for re-entry, but they are automatically invited to display on the "Board Of Honor". Show hours are 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10; 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Tickets are $9 one-day adult; $16 two-day adult; $7 for Hunter Education graduates ages 12-18 who completed a course before January 2005 and who show proof of course completion at the ticket window (otherwise, pay adult price); $3 youth ages 6-11, children five and under admitted free when accompanied by adult. Admission is free for qualified first-year hunters. Any first-year hunter of any age who received a hunter education certificate between January 1, 2005 and February 9, 2006, will receive free admission to the 2006 Michigan Deer & Turkey Spectacular when showing proof of course completion at the designated ticket window. On Friday Family Night, all youth ages 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
