Sad to see TV show is over

Monday, October 02, 2006

What happened? Thursday nights will always be  Fred Trost night
to me. I remember waiting all day to watch the show when I was younger .
Things have changed so much and this time of year which made me as excited
as a kid on Christmas Eve  is now reduced to should I go grouse hunting or
salmon fishing? This is really heart breaking to know your family who dedicated their life to the great outdoors has been victimized by our Government..
I don't know the circumstances and don't care to, I know that the technology
that is supposed to help our society has destroyed it. Instead of having 4
or 5 channels on TV we have 1000 mind destroying shows. Instead of trying to
find out our own secret hunting spots all we have to do is jump on the
Internet and find one. I can't even find a friend who hunts anymore. You and your father fought hard against a lot of things I've discussed here but it just shows you can't find city hall. So we take our slap in the face by people who know nothing about our fight and don't care to and they
leave us feeling angry and saddened and ruined. Its 3 am right now Oct 2nd I plan on leaving to my little place  in northern Michigan to hunt grouse and wood cock and fish for salmon in less then an hour, I'm taking my dog and just myself and I will walk the same woods and fish the same holes my father took me to, and some I found myself and I will
take with me my memories of the last 39 years of hunting and fishing and
will think of my friends and family that I shared so many good times with.

I hope this note lets you know people do remember your family's hard work
and it was appreciated.

Hi Darrell:

Your email hits on many important points. Society is changing and things change with change.  Some of the points you bring up did help to end the long running production of The Practical Sportsman.  However these were not the only factors that led to its demise. But as you state you don't care to hear why and I don't really care to continue to try to analyze my feelings as to why as well so we will leave it at that.

You make a good point that with today's technology secret hunting spots are no longer secret.  It is kind of a catch 22 though, as you also make the point it is hard to find a buddy to hunt with as well.

On a good note the reports I have been hearing is that this will shape up to be one of the best Grouse seasons for bird numbers in many years.

In conclusion you are right it would be nice to see people appreciate all the hard work put in over the years.

Good luck and good hunting.

Respectfully Outdoors,

Zachary Trost
