Pilgrim Village Fishing Report July 17, 2006

FISHING CONDITIONS ON LAKES CADILLAC AND MITCHELL FROM PILGRIM VILLAGE FISHING SHOP SUNDAY, JULY 16, 2006

Penetrating sun and 90 degrees plus temperatures haven't helped the fishing. Fish early or late and try deeper depths, especially the drop offs where there are weeds near by. Many are still fishing the shallows where they spawned a month ago and only catching small ones. Panfishing has slowed, but near limits are common. Pieces of crawlers, Leafworms, waxworms or crickets all are working. Cadillac, the area between the canal and Kenwood Park, especially 8 to 10 foot depths has been good for Gills and occasionally some decent Perch. Also, the South Shore, close to the Causeway is another alternative. Best Crappie fishing is still the East Side of Cadillac. Start over the slab piles or near the City Dock. Lake Mitchell, the drop off on the North Side (railroad tracks) has been good for Gills and large Sunfish. Start in front of the Skating Rink. Also, the mouth of the Small Cove has been good lately. The DNR says "Walleye are being taken in 10 to 15 feet of water using minnow baited jigs on the East Side of the Lake." Pike, lots of undersized but limits of 24 to 30 inchers are common. White Spinner baits have been effective. At first light often they'll give there location away by watching for swirls on the surface. Bass, those targeting them continue to do well. Mitchell has been stronger for Large Mouths, cast Senkos, tubes or spinner baits. Stop in The Pilgrim Village Fishing Shop for your bait needs. We're open from 7:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night for your convenience.
