FISHING CONDITIONS ON LAKES CADILLAC AND MITCHELL FROM PILGRIM VILLAGE FISHING SHOP SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2006 Summer is over by tradition, but the cool mornings and warm afternoons have been great. However, few are fishing our lakes. Salmon fishing is a sure bet as you can get. Be it Lake Michigan, the Piers or the Manistee River, most arte catching Kings. There's good numbers of fish in the Big Manistee River. All the way to Tippy Dam. Cadillac is blessed to be only 25 miles away. The river run has started and will only get better. This year they're running larger than past seasons with number of fish over 20 pounds. Flies, spinners and plugs are all working. Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell: Although Crappie fishing has slowed, most have been caught in 15 foot depths out from the Boat launch on the East side of Lake Cadillac. We're told that you have to fish a foot off the bottom to catch them. Don't have an explanation why they're not suspending which is their normal pattern. Fish early morning for best results. Use small minnows and or minnow and jig combinations. Those fishing from the City Dock are not catching great numbers. Bluegills and Sunfish have been hitting outside the Big and Small Coves on Lake Mitchell. Eight to ten foot depths, bobber fishing with worms or wax worms seems to be best. No tricks, easy fishing most of the day. A few Crappie or Perch maybe mixed in. Pike fishing is still consistent with most juvenile fish in the 20 to 28 inch range coming from both lakes. Sucker fishing or especially white spinner baits are both effective. This will improve as the water temperature cools down. Bass, Lake Cadillac has been stronger for Small Mouths. They seem to be feeding on Crayfish in the deeper water. Better numbers of Large Mouths are found on Lake Mitchell. Outside both Coves and Blind Island have been good. Soon late and Classic Tournaments will begin. Stop in The Pilgrim Village Fishing Shop for your bait needs. We're open from 7:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night for your convenience.
